Hand Painted
It's most common for people to think of hand painted items when they think of craft shows or craft sites. Drakencastle Beholden is certainly following this example, although we put a twist into what we produce. There are many ways of accenting hand painted designs.
Smoking the items is a simple way to add a different look. The object is painted the color chosen by our customer and then, using a knife and candle flame, the object is smoked. Any sections of the object that are to remain clear of smoke receive another layer of paint that covers any soot. After smoking, the item is then protected with either a gloss or matte finish, as the customer desires. The end result is a beautiful look that is quite different.
Wooden objects don't have to look like wood. The sconce on the right was painted to resemble stone. While you can't see it in this image, the mirror behind the candle (both removed for photography purposes) is etched with the faces of a Dragon. The effects together are a far cry from the wood that the sconce is actually made of.
Adding items to hand painted orders adds glitter, shine and light. As with the candle holders below, jewels can be glued onto a piece after it has been coated in finish. These jewels have taken the place of the berries of the holly that reach around the design. Jewels can be added to any item, as can wiggle eyes, feathers, sand, shells, or any other small object.
